       Artist Statements

PORTRAIT

My piece is a portrait of a women looking up into the sky or looking up at something. The most obvious element in my piece is value. The most obvious principle I used was contrast.

To create my piece I started with a grid , then I mapped out everything, then I added my shading and finally after my shading i added contrast.

My inspiration for this piece was because I liked the way her eyes stood out in the picture. The emotion i tried to convey was concentrated.

My goal as an artist was to complete the shading and the details in her face such as the eyes. I did reach my goal because i got my highlights and dark shadings in them and they stand out.

By creating this piece I learned how to cross hatch. Overall I do like this piece because it looks like my reference and I didn't think i would of been able to. I will use what I learned on this piece for future works because it will make my piece look better without the lines showing through my piece.

 Cross Contour

My piece illustrates a dog. It has fur and and collar on its neck. My subject matter is close-up view. The title of of my piece is "Mocha the dog". The most obvious elements in my piece is the contrast in the eyes it shows many details in the eye to make it realistic.

This piece was created by using pen, ink and the light table. I used numerous of artistry to make it look 3D. First, I mapped out my piece lightly using my pencil and then I experienced with a variety of pen textures until i found the right ones in each area that fit best for my piece. Then I started to add pen and altered the line quality to define the form. I used textures to create value.

My inspiration for this piece was the love I have for dogs. I have always like to see dogs play, jump around and bark it makes my heart happy. My work is a reminder of my dogs that I have at home and the moments we share that would never be forgotten.

My goal for this piece was to use contour lines to make the dog looked 3D and realistic. I believe i accomplished this goal and I am proud of myself. Practicing in my sketchbook certainly  helped me achieve this goal. Without my experimentation, I don't think would be as successful.

I learned about contour and cross contour lines while creating this piece. I also learned how to adjust line quality and add texture with the pen and ink. The final piece did come out as I planned and I think I will absolutely use what I learned in this project in future works. I would like to try adding a pen and ink to my upcoming project. I think it would stand out more and show where the location of everything is.

Watercolor

My piece describes a tree with falling colorful leaves. My artwork shows a tree containing a lot of leaves falling out of the tree. The day the leaves fall, is the title name of my piece. The most obvious element in my piece is value and the most obvious principle is contrast. The background on my wash and the color of the leaves demonstrate contrast.

I used a combination of artistry to get the desired outcome. I began by mapping out my piece and then using the wet on wet technique to create my wash and under painting. After numerous layers of under painting, I started to to use the wet on dry technique to add in details for my piece. I used many flat brushes to get the right wash and I created my details using a round brush.

My piece was encouraged by my love for nature and bright colors. I enjoy wearing bright colors because it pops out things so it wouldn't make it look plain. I intended to make the colors pop out to grab the viewers attention.

My goal as an artist was to use watercolor in a realistic way and show value throughout my piece. I wanted to design a sense of realistic objects. I believe the techniques I used helped me accomplish my goals and create a realistic water color painting.

I learned numerous of techniques including, wet on wet, wet on dry, building up values slowly and also making it realistic. The final piece is slightly different from how I expected the outcome to be, but over all I am very pleased on my art work. I will use theses skills in future pieces that I create. I think making your piece look realistic can be uses when creating any media.

Oil Pastel

My piece represents a dog from "The real life of pets" movie but just a realistic version. My piece is in landscape mode and my dog has wavy hair on the ears. The most obvious element on my piece is texture. I used a numerous of ways to create the texture I liked for my fur and to make it look realistic. The most obvious principle on my piece is a pattern. I used lines and wavy lines throughout my ears on my dog which created a pattern.

This piece was created by using Portfolio Oil Pastels. I used a numerous of ways to create my piece to make it as realistic as possible. I used light brown and dark brown heavy pressure to create sgraffito on the ears. I used light pressure for the face of the dog and i blended it with the blending stump. I also used a blending stump to get in the details of the eyes on my dog and to avoid places that the color shouldn't be.

My inspiration for this piece was my love for dogs and how happy they make me. I figured i would catch the viewers attention considering there are many people in the world who loves dogs as well. My piece is to show the beauty of the dog. I tried to adduce people to smile when they were to view it.

My goal as an artist of this piece was to create a pattern of textures to form the hair of the dog to make it realistic and to also add details in small portioned areas. I used Pastels that are very large and makes it very hard to get in tiny areas. I challenged my self to get into those small portioned areas and to make the details stand out. I think I accomplished my goals by using a variety of techniques and including the blending stumps to help make those portions on my piece look great. I feel my final piece is very realistic and detailed.

Altogether, this piece turned out better than I visualized it being. It looks realistic and reveals oil paint textures which is what I intended. This piece influenced my future works in trying unusual tools to make the finish product detailed by the blending stumps and to look amazing. I will eventually use Oil Pastels in the future because I like my final piece and the end results.

Foreshortening

This piece shows colored bright shoes that pops out at you to grab your attention. The shoes are close up and the girl wearing them has on blue jeans in this piece. The most obvious element is color and space. I used a numerous amounts of similar colors to make the piece have realism and pop out. The most obvious principles are contrast. I used a lot of different colors that are similar to build up the contrast.

This piece was created using pencil and prisma colored pencils. I used a numerous amount of techniques to make this piece look realistically. I used the process of cross hatching to build up my colors to make them darker. I used space for foreshortening. I also used blending to bend the colors in real well to make the piece stand out.

My inspiration of this piece was because of my love for shoes. I thought it would be cool to have shoes for this project because of how a person can have a really huge foot from a different angle. My artwork is meant to show the coolness of the shoes. I tried to adduce a "wow" face on the viewers who viewed my piece.

My goal as an artist of this piece was to show foreshortening and to make it look like it isn't outlined. This piece helped me reach my goal because the shoe shows everything I wanted. The prisma didn't blend to make a the color I needed so I had to build the colors to make the color I wanted. I think I achieved my goal by sticking with it and making the best of the prisma's. I feel that my piece is realistic.

Altogether, turned out better than I imagined it. This piece will influence my future works in trying unusual tools to achieve the results I want like I did with the prisma colored pencils. I will continue to use prisma's as a media for my projects. I will use prisma's in the future as well because I am happy with how my piece came out.

Master's Style

This piece shows a colorful Lion from the movie titled "The Lion King". The lion is close up and has numerous amount of colors on the fur. The title of my work is "The Colorful Lion". The most obvious element of my piece is color. The principle of my work is movement in the fur.

This piece was created with acrylic paint and a canvas. I used a numerous amount of techniques to make this piece as expressionistic as possible. I used wet on dry in the whole project. I also used a flat brush to get the background and a round brush for my details. The flat brush was used for the fur.

My inspiration for this piece was my love for Lions. I thought it would be cool to make the Lion's hair different colors to pop out to the viewer. My artwork is to show the coolness and the wonderful colors. I tried to implore beauty in those who viewed it.

My goal as an artist with this piece was to show expressionism and make the details stand out. Paint is rather hard to get in tiny spaces without it spreading into another area. I think I accomplished my goal by trying a variety if techniques and settling on expressionism. I feel that my piece shows expressionism.

Altogether, this piece turned out as i imagined. It is expressionistic and it shows a element of color which is what I wanted. This piece will influence my future works in trying unconventional tools to achieve the end results I want like I did with the colors. I will use acrylic paint in the future as well because I am happy with the end results of my piece.

Tiki Sculpture

My artwork has roses on the back with a chain at the bottom and it has leaf like hair. The subject matter is a "Tiki Sculpture". The title of my artwork is " Kane The Wood". The most obvious element in my piece is texture. The most obvious principle is contrast.

The media my artwork was made from was clay and clay tools to add in texture. I used the technique to make roses with the four circles of clay to make pedals and rolling it to form a rose. I used a cardboard tubing to make it easier to cut things out so I wouldn't push in my sculpture. I used the four stages to make my artwork also.

What inspired me to do my piece was Kane being the "God of the Universe" and I love planets, stars, galaxies. My artwork does not express a personal or social issue. The emotions I tried to express in my piece was happy and make him look like he had a fish bone like mouth. I also tried to show different parts of the universe.

My goal as an artist was to challenge my self with new techniques that ive never done before. This piece helped me reach my goal by me being able to finish out strongly and not giving up. I just kept trying when I failed at what I was doing. I eventually finished and it came out the way I wanted it to.

I learned the different meanings of each Tiki sculpture and what they needed to make them. The final piece I imagined was terrible but I ended up making it better than I imagined. My piece will influence my future artworks by me trying different things with the techniques I learned when making this project.

Art Show

My artwork shows a girl crying with a dead flower under one eye and then under the other eye it is a flower that is alive. The subject matter of my piece is a girl crying into the dead  flower. The title of my artwork is "The Miracle".  The most obvious element in my piece is color. The most obvious principle in my piece is contrast.

My artwork is made from Prisma pencils. For the hair I used pencil. I used a blending stump to blend in pieces of the hair. I used the circle technique to blend in colors with Prisma. I also used a eraser to add in highlights for a realistic look.

My artwork was inspired by the love I have for flowers.  This piece is personal to me by seeing my mother raise us by her self and struggle to provide things and a man came along to help. I tried to show a message that was negative things that turn positive because of a miracle happen. I also was trying to show how things can be changed but only if you want it to.

My goal as an artist was to make the message clear as possible. I also wanted to make the piece pop out to the viewer with the bright colors. I wanted to make the hair realistic. I achieved my goals with this piece because its got everything i wanted on it and has all the details to make it realistic.

In creating this artwork I learned that if you do two medias it will make this piece look more interesting.  Yes, this final piece is what I imagined but its even better. Because I really wanted to put the message out to the viewer. This piece will influence my future artworks because i will definitely use Prismas again because of the great outcome I got with them.

"As my artist statements explains, my work is utterly incomprehensible and is therefore full of deep significance".
